Celebrities Who Have Quit Social Media

For many celebrities, social media is a tool that allows them to connect with their fans and promote their work. It definitely has its positives, but with millions across the world hanging on to every word and studying every photograph, it is easy to see why stars need to unplug and step away from their social media accounts every now and then. While some celebs, like Cardi, left temporarily due to backlash, others like Selena Gomez and Shawn Mendes felt the need to take a break for the sake of their mental health. Scroll to find out why these 11 celebrities quit social media.

In 2016, the model deleted her Instagram because she wanted to "detox" from social media. "I don't know, I just wanted to detox. I felt like—I just wanted a little bit of a break. I'm always on it. I feel—I would wake up in the morning, and I would look at it first thing. I would go to bed, and it was the last thing that I would look at. It just, I felt a little too dependent on it. I kind of wanted to take a minute; it's a detox," she explained on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

3. Cardi B

After Cardi became the first solo female rapper to win a Grammy for the Best Rap Album category this year, she faced backlash on social media from her detractors. The rapper posted a heated video rant on her Instagram before deleting her entire account. Two days later, she resurfaced to announce her next collaboration with Bruno Mars.

Camila. Very quirky. Yeah. Very quirky. Cute,” she answered. Fans of Camila took the hesitation as a snub towards the singer and swarmed social media with hateful tweets towards Kordei. Overwhelmed by the amounting hate she was receiving, the "Dancing With A Stranger" singer announced that she was going to take a hiatus from the app. She started tweeting again a month later.
