Kate McKinnon To Play Carole Baskin In Upcoming 'Tiger King' Series

Hey all you cool cats and kittens: we've got some pretty amazing casting news to share with you today. Kate McKinnon has signed on to star as Carole Baskin in the upcoming Tiger King mini-series. While most of us are familiar with the new Netflix documentary Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness, which follows big cat zoo owner Joe Exotic as he spirals out of control in his long-running feud against Baskin—the CEO of Big Cat Rescue determined to shut his park down, this mini-series has actually been in the works for quite some time now. Here's everything you need to know.

Back in November 2019, Deadline first reported that McKinnon had signed on to play Baskin in a mini-series based on the true-crime story, as well as executive produce the project. Universal Content Productions, which also created the true-crime mini-series Dirty John, was reportedly developing the series for an unnamed network at the time. Few other details about the adaptation are currently known.

While McKinnon is currently the only star attached to the project, fans of the wildly successful Netflix documentary have taken to Twitter to suggest their ideas for which actors should join in her the adaptation. From suggestions that Will Ferrel play Doc Antle to Matthew McConaughey starring as John Reinke, there was no shortage of ambitious fan casting sweeping social media after the documentary premiered.

Even Hollywood stars themselves started to shoot their shot and suggest themselves for starring roles in the upcoming series. "If I don't get cast as Joe Exotic in the eventual biopic, Hollywood is broken," Dax Shepard tweeted.

Edward Norton playfully replied to Shepard's tweet and igniting a whole new feud about which one of them will land the now-coveted role. "Um, step aside, pal. You’re way too young and buff and you know it. You could probably pull off Maldonado still, actually. Wouldn’t that be fun?" Justin Long got in on the conversation, too, suggesting Jim Gaffigan for the role of Antle. "And if [Gaffigan] plays Baghavan 'Doc' Antle you can sit next to each other at the oscars!," he wrote."
