Netflix Renews 'Bridgerton' For Second Season

More Bridgerton is on the way at Netflix.

On Thursday (January 21), Netflix confirmed the Regency era drama has been picked up for a second season. While the first season followed Daphne Bridgerton as she made her debut in London society's competitive "marriage mart," the second season will mainly focus on Anthony Bridgerton.

“The author has been reliably informed that Lord Anthony Bridgerton intends to dominate the social season. I will have my pen ready to report on any and all of his romantic activities,” a press release, written from the perspective of Lady Whistledown, revealed.

Bridgerton is based on Julia Quinn’s best-selling series of romance novels, which consists of eight books—one for each Bridgerton sibling. “I think there is a deep well of story for us to explore on Bridgerton,” Chris Van Dusen, who adapted the series for Netflix, recently told Entertainment Tonight. “We have an amazing sprawling cast of characters and amazing cast and that provides us opportunities to explore all kinds of stories for all these characters.”

Van Dusen teased what's to come for Anthony in season, as well, saying: “There are eight Bridgerton books. We know that there are eight Bridgerton siblings. And in success, I would love to be able to explore stories and romances for all the Bridgerton children. Anthony, of course, included.”

The first season of the show was largely based on Quinn's The Duke and I, which means it's likely the second season will be inspired by The Viscount Who Loved Me. Anybody who can't wait for the second season to hit Netflix can pick up copies of Quinn's books to tide them over.

Bridgerton is expected to start production on season two this spring.
