(Naples, FL) - Florida Senator Rick Scott says it's time to prepare for the Atlantic Hurricane season which starts Sunday.
Sen. Scott was joined today by state and local officials to promote hurricane preparedness.
Sen. Scott says since Hurricane Andrew a category 5 storm that hit Miami-Dade in 1992, every county created an excellent emergency management team.
State Senator Kathleen Passidomo joined the senator in Naples, where they both live. She says her home was destroyed by storms three times and this season. She says her recent knee surgery reminded her of the importance of helping the elderly and the disabled.
Sen. Scott also warned that the waters around Florida have started warming and that means storms and deadly storm surge.
He says it's imperative to know your evacuation routes and to stock up on supplies.
According to him, preparation begins with residents, then local and state government. Finally, Sen. Scott promised to make sure the federal government is also ready if we get hit.
